We've got the Solmar V reserved
for whale season in March 2010
Last time I was in Socorro for whale season we
could hear the whale song underwater on every dive we did. In between dives we
had humpback whales breaching and spy-hopping around the boat. But we didn't
get to see the whales underwater. Only
three
weeks
later my friends enjoyed a 3-day underwater close encounter with a mother humpback
whale, her calf and escort. They got some amazing pictures and left all of their
friends green with envy. So we're going back for more and have booked the whole
boat. Would
you
like to join us?
Scuba Club Cozumel Workshop in
August
Our photo workshops in Cozumel
continue to be a big hit. So much so that we've
found it necessary to scale
things down a little to keep the group size manageable. We're
making some adjustments to the way we run the workshops.
Future
workshops will be limited to no more than 20 divers unless
we can find another photo pro to assist. We'll also be charging
a $250 fee per person for the workshop. We'll no longer accept
walk-ins and the hotel reservations and workshop must be booked
through us. In the past we've had people show up at the workshops
who we were not expecting and not prepared for. We've also
found
out that those people who booked with anyone else did not get
the pre-workshop information that we send out. The cost of
the rooms, meals and diving will be exactly the same as if
you booked
with your favorite travel agent or with Scuba Club directly.
Please join us for our next CZM trip
from 8/7/09 through 8/15/09 with the Underwater Photography
Workshop from August
8 through August 14, 2009. We'll have the same great photo
contest prizes as always and will make the latest camera
gear available to you at discounted rental rates. If you
decide to buy at the end of the week, we'll apply all the
rental fee toward the discounted purchase. Try it in the
warm Cozumel waters with the help of a photo pro and get
great pricing too!

Our
PNG trip was amazing
We just got back from the Papua
New Guinea highlands and Milne Bay live-aboard trip on
the Spirit of Niugini. Check
out some of the photos from this trip. I've also finished
the highlands part of the trip report, but just got too busy
for the diving part. Maybe some day I'll finish that too. For
now, enjoy my trip
report from the PNG highlands!
February Cozumel Photography

is the week before Carnival, so you might want to stay on
for a couple more days to join in on the celebration! More

How to choose a dive operator in Cozumel
Cozumel is one of the world's top
dive destinations. Its quick and easy to get to, offers great
diving at an affordable
price, but for the first time visitor choosing a dive operation
and place to stay can be confusing. Here are some Cozumel
guidelines to help you to choose the right dive boat
and hotel for your needs.
I'm honored to
have been chosen as one of the judges in the Reef Check Underwater

Thank you! You've made my day...
When I posted this
photo, my goal was to put Roca Partida
on the map when Google Earth developed its alliance with
Panoramio.com. My
ulterior
motive
was to find another place online to tell people about one
of my wonderful clients, the Solmar V. At the time I didn't
know people could comment on the photos. Now I receive
a message every couple of weeks telling me that someone has.
I didn't think this was such a great photo, but sure do
appreciate
the comments people have left about it. Since I took this
picture I've been back to Roca Partida on the Solmar V
four more times. I guess the place is magical like one of the
comments suggests. It keeps drawing me back.
Just Back From A Socorro Trip Aboard Solmar V
We just got back from my sixth trip
aboard Solmar V, the fifth time to Socorro. We had an AMAZING
trip,
as always with giant
mantas on every dive, 20-30 dolphins at Cabo Pearce, lots
of sharks, big schools of skipjack & yellowtail, whale
song underwater that was so loud it rattled our eardrums,
and
whale tail all the way home. To wrap up the trip we spent
the last night dancing on the tables and pole dancing in
the cage at El Squid Roe. We've got several of the photos posted
on the Scuba & Underwater Photographers Meeup Group and
have just posted a
trip report on this site.
Galapagos / Amazon Trip Photos
We've just returned from the most
AMAZING Galapagos trip ever! This was my fourth trip to the islands
and it was better than the other three combined. We were fortunate
to be aboard the Peter
Hughes
Sky Dancer on one of the last 10-day Galapagos trips
allowed
to any dive live-aboard there. We spent one day at Cousin's Rock
and Bartolome where we found seahorse colonies, many turtles,
sealions
and
schools
of snappers. The penguins at Bartolome were out in force and
performed for all the snorkelers. In two days at Wolf Island
we had Galapagos
sharks, schools of barracuda, 10 eagle rays that stayed with
us through
two dives,
dolphins
literally
jumping into our panga, hundreds of hammerheads, and turtles
lining up to be photographed.
In four days at Darwin we enjoyed 36
whaleshark sightings,
thousands of hammerheads, friendly dolphins, thousands of the
fattest tuna I've ever seen, and golden rays. Cabo Marshall
delivered colder water, marbled rays and manta rays.
The St. James land tour was full of marine iguanas, birds,
sealions and too many other tourists. Our last day at Gordon
Rocks
satisfied the needs of the macro shooters with lots of colorful
juveniles, nudibranchs, octopus and other critters.
Several of the group continued on to
the Ecuadorian Amazon to visit the Napo Wildlife Center for
a couple more days. This
place was an unexpected surprise. The resort sits on Añangu
Lake inside the Yasuní National Park and is owned and
operated by local Quechua Indians who ensure that visitors
have an outstanding wildlife and cultural experience while
causing as little impact to the environment as possible.
Our
complete trip report will be online someday. For
now you can enjoy the photos.
