Mount Bromo

Mount Bromo is one of Indonesia’s many active volcanoes. The best way to see it is at sunrise so you should arrange to arrive the day before and spend the night at any of several hotels in the area. In the morning you are awaken before 4 am to begin a spectacular journey from your hotel across the sand sea. The local tour guide will pick you up by jeep at your hotel and take you to the base of the mountain. From there you can experience the hike yourself or negotiate to hire a local "pony" to climb up the lava flow to the 245 steps to the rim, also called "the stairway to heaven" to look into the bottom of the crater and enjoy the breathtaking views that surround you.
