Bonnie Pelnar - Designer, Producer, Photographer

Many years of experience in computer graphics, photography, and design go into the development of every project I produce. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Arts and Photography. Immediately after graduating, I moved into the printing and publishing industry where I worked as a graphic artist and typesetter in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

In my quest for better career opportunities I moved to California (yes, the weather had something to do with it). I spent the next eight years with Genigraphics Corporation, who was at the time the undisputed leader in the computer presentation graphics industry. From there I went to Eastman Kodak Company where I was able to learn more about desktop publishing and the ever evolving CD ROM technology. I specialized in color management and sold electronic prepress systems for Kodak Electronic Printing Systems (KEPS), eventually managing the entire Western region for that division.

A hard day at work with the crew of the Lammer Law in Galapagos.
In October of 1996 I broke away from my successful career in the corporate world to make Under Watercolours a full time commitment. I've been producing CD ROMs, designing web sites, and creating graphics ever since. My travels have taken me to Fiji, Tonga, Palau, Truk, Kosrae, Philippines, Africa, Galapagos, Indonesia, the Amazon, throughout Mexico and the Caribbean.

In 1999 I produced the Fiji Islands CD ROM which won a Summit Creative Award, competing against $20,000,000 advertising agencies, and is now in its second edition. Other CD productions include "The Aqua Safari CD ROM", "Paradisus Cozumel", "The Reef and Islands of Chuuk Atoll", "Talk Story, Tech Story", and "Liquid Light" the photography of Lee Peterson. Other projects include numerous brochures, several CD ROMs & web sites for Fox Studios Baja (home of the movie "Titanic"). Prior to that I brought the book "Tropical Pacific Invertebrates" to press (a 300 page full color reference manual published by Coral Reef Press) and also published that title on CD ROM, now in its 2nd edition.

Being mischievous... ask me about this one.
With advancements in web design technology I began to focus on creating more web sites. This was a natural progression from the multimedia of CD ROM production. I have created over 100 active sites and continue to branch out into new ventures and develop new alliances. Today I am the lead designer for all the sites produced by Under Watercolours and work with a group of independently contracted assistants who are not only associates, but have become close friends.

I have served as a member of the University of California Fullerton Web Certificate Program Advisory Board. I regularly give slide show presentations and workshops about underwater photography, destinations and digital underwater photography. I have been scuba diving for twenty years. I am a PADI Divemaster and occasionally work as a volunteer on the dive boats off the coast of Southern California.

In the summer of 2003 I spent most my time working to finish another project several years in the works. With my client, friend and now business partner, Marty Snyderman, we developed a series of online courses teaching underwater photography, digital underwater photography and the digital workflow for underwater photographers. These courses are now available at TheUnderwaterPhotographer.com.

Another pet project is the design of a line of jewelry which will be hand made in Bali. This jewelry line is called Sterling Sea and will include, obviously, ocean related designs.

My company Under Watercolours is located in Irvine, California. I travel with digital cameras and laptop computers. In my studio I have some of the most state of the art equipment available to produce your marketing project. Scanners, Macintosh & Windows computers, printers, video editing and digitizing equipment are all at my fingertips. I am constantly updating software and testing new applications, always in search of new ways to deliver your message and for new marketing opportunities. I will personally design and oversee the production of your project, so I can be sure that it is the best it can be.
